Noah Lyles may have finished his 2026 season earlier than expected, but the year still ended with his name sitting at the top of a remarkable 100m story. The American’s 9.79-second run at the USATF Championships was impressive on its own. But the bigger headline came from the depth behind him. A record 49 men broke the 10-second barrier in the 100m this season , smashing the previous mark of 39 set in 2023.
